What's Good about Comparison?

Recently, I found myself thinking about the subject of comparison.  A lot of times we look at other people and think, “I wish I could have the life they have.”

When we compare like that, we often get discouraged.  The good news is, there are positives to be gained from comparison.

A number of years ago, I met a very successful leader who remains my friend.  I look up to him a lot and try to emulate him.  Over time I have realized it’s not so much about me be like him, but rather, what can I glean from his life?

For example, he reads two books a month.  He’s always reading.  If he reads two books a month, and he’s in that position, that’s one simple way I can emulate him and start putting myself in that trajectory.

I realize that’s a simple example, but so often we relegate ourselves all together.  We say, “I could never do that.  I could never be like him or her.”  Let me remind you, “A Simple Change Makes a Big Difference.”  A lot of simple changes make a huge difference.

Take one step at a time.  Ask yourself today, “Who is one person I admire, and what’s one way I could emulate him or her to make myself more successful?”
